Live shows in October
October brings an exceptionally varied programme to The Regent, giving us plenty of reasons to plan an autumn night out in Christchurch.
The month moves from classical crossover and traditional brass music to ocean adventures, West End favourites, 1980s pop and nostalgic tribute performances. Half term brings live musical theatre to the stage before October ends with a suitably spooky Halloween production.
Here are some of the month’s main highlights.
October begins with a major classical-crossover performance as Paul Potts joins The Opera Boys for their farewell tour on Thursday 1 October.
The concert combines opera, musical theatre and modern pop, performed with soaring vocals and four-part harmonies. Paul Potts became the first winner of Britain’s Got Talent following his memorable performance of Nessun Dorma.

Music dominates the first half of the month. Bowie Experience celebrates the music and stage presence of David Bowie on Friday 2 October, followed by Chris Stapleton UK on Saturday 3 October.
Bournemouth Concert Brass brings the atmosphere of the Last Night of the Proms to Christchurch on Sunday 4 October. Expect a patriotic finale featuring traditional favourites including Jerusalem and Land of Hope and Glory.
Later highlights include The Robbie Williams Tribute Concert Live on Friday 9 October and Defying Gravity - West End Women on Saturday 10 October. The latter celebrates leading women of musical theatre with songs from productions including Wicked, Les Misérables, Mamma Mia and Waitress.
The Ocean Film Festival World Tour arrives on Thursday 8 October with a collection of short films exploring marine life, ocean sports and adventures at sea.
The programme follows surfers, paddlers, divers and scientists into some of the planet’s most remarkable marine environments. It should appeal to adventurous travellers, watersports enthusiasts and anyone fascinated by the natural world.

Musical theatre fans can see a filmed live performance of Hadestown: The Musical on Tuesday 13 and Wednesday 21 October.
The award-winning musical retells the intertwined stories of Orpheus and Eurydice and Hades and Persephone through a distinctive combination of American folk music and New Orleans-inspired jazz. The production was filmed in London’s West End with members of the original Broadway cast.
Hadestown: The Musical – Tuesday 13 October at 7.30pm and Wednesday 21 October at 5pm. Certificate 12A. Tickets cost £19–£20.
The second half of October is particularly strong for music fans. The Blow Monkeys bring their Birdsong Tour to The Regent on Thursday 15 October, followed by Express Yourself - The Madonna Show on Saturday 17 October.
Money for Nothing celebrates the music of Dire Straits on Sunday 18 October, while Michael Mania Live recreates the songs and performances of Michael Jackson on Thursday 22 October.
One of the month’s biggest nostalgic nights comes from 911. Lee Brennan, Jimmy Constable and Spike Dawbarn visit Christchurch as part of the band’s 30th Anniversary Tour, with a set expected to include hits such as Bodyshakin’, A Little Bit More and More Than a Woman.

Noël Coward’s comedy Fallen Angels will be screened at 2pm on Sunday 25 October.
Families can then enjoy High School Musical on Stage! on Wednesday 28 October. Presented by Artisan Theatre School, the production brings the familiar songs, school rivalries and upbeat energy of the Disney musical to The Regent’s stage during half term.
October concludes with BMT’s Halloween Spooktacular on Saturday 31 October. The seasonal production provides a fitting end to a month filled with live entertainment and gives audiences another way to celebrate Halloween in Christchurch.
The previous evening, Big Girls Don’t Cry brings the music of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons to the theatre.
