The Mudeford Club

The Mudeford Club is a long-established social club serving Mudeford, Stanpit and the wider Christchurch community.

It was founded by local fishermen in 1928, although records suggest informal meetings were taking place as early as 1923. Its first clubhouse was a green corrugated-iron building known as the Green Hut. The current premises were subsequently constructed in stages through the work and financial support of Club members.

The Club remains connected to Mudeford’s fishing heritage, particularly through its annual Pussyfoot Dinner, a seafood event which began in 1970.

Community Clubs in Mudeford and Christchurch

The Mudeford Club is a friendly members’ social club in Stanpit, Christchurch, offering an affordable bar, freshly prepared food and activities throughout the week. Its regular programme includes poker, quizzes, darts, snooker, cribbage, dominoes, bingo and Saturday-night entertainment. Full annual membership and short-term holiday membership are available, while the Club’s Top Deck can accommodate parties and community celebrations.

Membership

The Mudeford Club operates as a members’ club. Full annual membership currently costs £35, with an additional one-off joining fee of £15.

New applicants need a proposer and seconder who are already Club members. Application forms and full instructions can be obtained from the bar or downloaded from the official website.

People aged 16 or 17 can enter when accompanied by a member. Children are permitted on Saturday afternoons until 7pm, with additional lunchtime access during school holidays when accompanied by a member.

Membership fees and admission rules can change, so prospective members should confirm the current arrangements directly with the Club.

Holiday Membership

Visitors staying in the Christchurch or Mudeford area can purchase a temporary holiday membership.

Holiday membership currently costs £10 per week for either one person or a couple. It provides access to members’ bar prices, gaming machines and the Club’s snooker tables.

There is no need to arrange holiday membership in advance. Visitors can enquire at the bar and receive a dated temporary membership card.

Poker

The Club hosts two regular poker sessions.

Monday poker is reserved for members, while Wednesday’s Open Poker League welcomes wider participation. Registration normally begins at 7.15pm and entry currently costs £5 per week.

The Wednesday league operates across 13 weeks, with points, cash prizes and an end-of-league competition for the leading players.

Quiz Night

The Tuesday quiz costs £2 per person and combines general questions with changing rounds such as music, Top Ten, Mystery Round and Play Your Cards Right.

Cash prizes vary according to participation. New visitors should contact the Club to confirm whether membership, guest entry or advance registration is required.

Darts, Snooker and Traditional Games

The Mudeford Club has two full-size snooker tables for members and participates in local darts competitions.

Regular activities include mixed darts on Mondays, ladies’ darts on Thursdays and men’s darts on Fridays. Thursday evenings also provide a relaxed opportunity to play cribbage and dominoes.

Seasonal knockout competitions are organised across snooker, billiards, darts, dominoes and cribbage.

Sunday Bingo

Bingo takes place on Sundays from approximately 8.30pm.

The current price is £6 for a book covering eight games, with an optional £1 winner-takes-all final game. Check the arrangements with the Club before attending, as prices and starting times may change.

Live Entertainment and Special Events

Saturday evenings regularly feature live entertainment, including singers, bands, tribute performers and themed music nights.

The Club also organises annual activities such as charity fundraising, sporting competitions, racecourse trips, seasonal draws and a New Year’s Eve party. Performers and event dates change throughout the year.

Food and Kitchen

The Club kitchen serves freshly prepared food at selected lunchtimes and evenings. Menus change regularly and may be supplemented by daily specials and occasional themed meals.

Current kitchen hours are:

• Monday: 12 noon-2pm
• Tuesday: 12 noon-2pm and 6pm-8pm
• Wednesday: 12 noon-2pm
• Thursday: 12 noon-2pm
• Friday: 12 noon-2pm and 6pm-8pm
• Saturday: 12 noon-2pm
• Sunday: Monthly Sunday roasts, which must be booked at the bar

Kitchen hours and menus can change, so contact the Club before making a special journey for food.

Party and Function Hire

The Club’s Top Deck is available for parties, functions and celebrations. Bookings provide use of the space but do not include exclusive use of the entire room.
