Date Updated

2nd November 2026

November offers plenty of reasons to spend time in Christchurch, from cultural afternoons to evenings filled with music and light.

The town’s museums and performance venues provide inviting places to escape the colder weather, while its historic buildings make memorable settings for concerts and seasonal shopping. Towards the end of the month, Christmas arrives with local makers, festive entertainment and the town-centre lights switch-on.

Here are five of our favourite ways to enjoy Christchurch this November.

Discover Christchurch Through the Lens

Throughout November; exhibition continues until Sunday 6 December 2026 | Red House Museum and Gardens

Christchurch Through the Lens invites us to look at familiar streets and landmarks from a different perspective.

Created by the museum’s volunteers following more than a year of research into its photographic archives, the exhibition centres on the aerial photography of Allen White, a local historian, RAF photographer and former Christchurch Times journalist.

His photographs reveal the changing shape of the town, connecting its buildings and landscapes with the lives of the people who knew them. Visitors are also encouraged to share their own memories, helping inform future exhibitions. Admission is free.

We would take our time spotting recognisable places and comparing them with the Christchurch we know today. It is an appealing outing for long-standing residents, newcomers and anyone curious about the town’s past.

Meet Director Mark Jenkin at the Regent

Friday 6 November 2026, 7.30pm | The Regent

For a cinema evening with something extra, Dirt in the Gate Movies presents Rose of Nevada on 35mm film, followed by an on-stage Q&A with director Mark Jenkin.

The story begins when a fishing boat missing for 30 years unexpectedly returns to a Cornish village. A new crew takes it back to sea, only to discover on their return that something has changed in a deeply unsettling way.

The screening offers a chance to experience the film on a traditional film print and then hear directly from its filmmaker about the work behind it. Tickets are £15, and the film carries a 15 certificate.

It is a particularly interesting choice for film enthusiasts, but you do not need technical knowledge to enjoy the conversation. Come with curiosity - and perhaps a question to ask afterwards.

Hear The Armed Man at Christchurch Priory

Wednesday 11 November 2026, 7.30pm | Christchurch Priory

Christchurch Priory hosts an evening of music reflecting on war and peace, with the University Music Choir and Orchestra performing Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man.

Conducted by Ian Davis, the programme also includes Finzi’s Eclogue and four songs by Ivor Gurney, arranged by Finzi, with pianist Mila Pendaroska and baritone Jonathan Prentice.

Taking place on Armistice Day, the concert offers an opportunity to pause and reflect through live music in one of Christchurch’s most significant historic buildings. Tickets are listed at £20 and £16, with a 50% student concession.

For those who usually encounter choral music through recordings, hearing a choir and orchestra together in the Priory promises a very different experience. Allow time to arrive and settle in before the performance begins.

Browse Local Makers at Highcliffe Castle

Saturday 21 November 2026, 10am - 5pm, and Sunday 22 November 2026, 10am - 4pm | Highcliffe Castle

Creatives at the Castle brings more than 40 local traders and makers to Highcliffe Castle for a weekend of Christmas shopping.

The State Rooms provide the setting for the stalls, while visitors can also explore the castle’s full visitor route, dressed for the festive season. Mulled wine and mince pies will be available from the castle bar, giving shoppers a reason to pause between browsing.

Tickets cost £4 for adults, £1 for Castle Members, and are free for children. Admission includes the market, access to Highcliffe Castle and its winter exhibition.

We would bring a shopping list but leave room for an unexpected discovery. The combination of local makers and historic surroundings makes this a lovely way to begin Christmas preparations while enjoying a day out.

Christchurch welcomes the festive season with an afternoon of shopping, music and family entertainment, followed by the town’s Christmas lights switch-on.
