A Familiar Fish & Chip Favourite Is Back in Christchurch - With a Brand-New Name

Christchurch has welcomed back a familiar face from one of the town’s best-known fish and chip restaurants, this time at a brand-new local takeaway.

Priory View Fish & Chip is now open in Bargates, with Ray, formerly of the popular Priory Fryer, returning as head chef. For local customers who have been missing his freshly cooked fish and chips, the news should be particularly welcome.

Although Priory View is a new and separate business, there is plenty that will feel reassuringly familiar.

Ray brings 43 years of experience to the kitchen, together with the carefully developed batter recipe and attention to quality that earned him a strong local following and national recognition.

The focus remains firmly on proper, freshly prepared fish and chips.

The team says everything is made in house wherever possible, with sustainably and ethically sourced ingredients cooked fresh to order.

There is good news for gluten-free diners, too.

A dedicated gluten-free batter is available every Wednesday and is cooked in separate oil, making the new opening a particularly useful addition to Christchurch’s takeaway scene.

Priory View has opened at 113 Bargates, giving Ray a fresh kitchen and a new name from which to begin his next chapter.

It may be a different location and identity, but for many Christchurch residents, the return of a much-loved local chef will be the most important ingredient of all.

Priory View Fish & Chip is currently open on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, with lunchtime and evening service on Fridays and Saturdays.
