Christchurch Town Council’s Community & Engagement Committee has approved the principle of continuing the St George’s Day celebration, with ambitions to give more local people and organisations a part in its future.

The first Christchurch Shout brought residents and visitors to the Bandstand on Christchurch Quay in April 2026. Together, they joined communities around England in a shared reading from Shakespeare’s Henry V.
Christchurch won the national Best Location Award, with organisers recognising the striking waterside setting and Grade II listed bandstand.
For 2027, the council wants to build on that success through a wider celebration of the town’s heritage. Its ambition is to involve schools, youth organisations, families and community groups, drawing inspiration from Shakespeare and the legend of St George.
For residents, the news provides an early spring date for the diary:Friday 23 April 2027. The council has backed the event’s return, while the wider heritage celebration remains its ambition for the next chapter.
